Welcome to Year 3,
Lent 1 Term
This half term, in English, we will be studying the Iron Man. We will be focusing on sentence structure in particular and focusing on setting and character description as well as recounting and reporting. We will also use this text in our shared reading sessions.
In Maths, we will be looking at written methods of multiplication and division as well as keeping our focus on our key times tables of 3, 4 and 8. We will also be working on measuring in millimetres, centimetres and metres and studying perimeter.
In our RE, we are continuing with our new scheme of learning called the RED (Religious Education Directory) Curriculum. In Lent 1, we will explore the topic ‘Galilee to Jerusalem’. The focus is on what the Kingdom of God is like and explored through miracles performed by Jesus and parables he told. We will then move on to studying saints and how they helped build the kingdom.
Blocked Curriculum
The blocked curriculum is called The Iron Man. This half term will focus on forces in Science, Levers in Design and Technology and creating trailers in Music.
Our RSHE focus this half term is called ‘Jesus, my friend.’ In this unit, children will think about friendship and what builds and breaks friendship with God and others. They will also think about forgiveness and what it means.
In French, pupils will be learning the names of musical instruments and the verb jouer (to play).
PE this term will still be on Wednesdays and Fridays and the children will be doing Dance and Gymnastics with Mr Mitchell.
