Pentecost Term 1
What the Romans did for us?
In English, we will be using the text ‘Escape from Pompeii’ and will be writing both a non-chronological report and a diary over the course of this half term. We will be refining our expanded noun phrases as well as looking for carefully chosen word choices. We will be continuing to work on our understanding of how paragraphs work and being increasingly careful with a range of punctuation.
In Maths, after completing our unit on Mass and capacity, we will be returning to fractions briefly looking particularly at fractions of a set of objects. We will also be looking at money too particularly adding and subtracting it.
In the Year 3 RED RE topic “To the Ends of the Earth,” children will first be thinking about the first disciples in the story of the Road to Emmaus and then how we hear some of the words of Jesus at the end of Matthew’s gospel in Mass. We will reflect on how the Holy Spirit helped the disciples and will consider how we can live out the gifts. We will also be thinking about the letters Paul wrote to early Christian communities.
Our topic this term is called Romans. The subjects we will be learning as part of this topic are History, Geography and Art.
In Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) our topic this term will be ‘A community of love’. Children will know that God is love as shown by the Holy Trinity and that the human family reflects the Holy Trinity in mutual charity and generosity. We will also be revisiting the key concept that we are made in the image of God.
In French, the topic name is ‘Les Glaces’ with children learning the names of 10 flavours of ice-cream and the transactional language required to purchase an ice-cream in French.
In computing, children will be learning about a school safe discussion forum and the codes of conduct around this.
In PE this term, children will need to wear their kit on Fridays only and bring their swimming kit on this day too.
